何謂養生?為何養生?
What is health cultivation? Why do we need the regimen?

攝生,即保養身體、持養生命。

老子有云:「蓋聞善攝生者,路行不遇兇虎,入軍不被甲兵,兇無所投其角,虎無所用其爪,兵無所容其刃。夫何故?以其無死地。」

為何養生這麼重要?能健康存活,才能有生活,才能花錢、才能享受、才能有餘力幫助別人;只能存活而沒有健康,根本沒有生活可言。
Health cultivation, it means to maintain our body, be healthy.

”Some said those people who are skilful to maintain their health, they wouldn't meet with an angry tiger when they travelled, wouldn't be hurt in the battle, the rhinoceros found no place in those people to thrust the horn, the tiger found no place to scratch those people, enemies couldn't use their weapons. Why? They don't expose themselves to the harmful situations at all." - Chapter 50, Tao Te Ching

Why do we need the health regimen? You can only live with healthy status, to spend money, to enjoy your life, to help others; there is no live quality without health, that is only "existence".

同為人,但我們都是不同個體。我們有不同的個性、習慣,我們有不同的偏好、興趣,我們有不同的作息、職業,我們有不同的居住環境、地區。這些都造就我與你之間的差異。適合我的,不代表適合你的;你喜歡的,不代表我喜歡的。既然如此,為何別人適合的養生方式,就一定適合自己呢?


很多人以為中醫只是治病 - 連國際的衛生組織也不例外。實際上中醫是一門生活哲學,一門能在生活中實踐,保養身體的哲學,治病反而是非不得已而為之的手段。外面充斥著各種標榜「健康」、「養生」、「自然」的食物產品,一篇篇暗示明示各種所謂中醫理論、關於健康與養生的文章。大家或多或少試過,有的有效,有的沒效,有的甚至不對勁,為什麼呢?

古代中國哲學與文化講求中庸之道,講求平衡;延伸到養生,中醫哲學理論中講求三因制宜:因時、因地、因人 - 也就是根據不同時間、季節、氣候、地域環境、年齡、性別、體質、狀態,去制定適合的養生方案。即使居住同樣地方,在不同季節,飲食作息已經需要調整 - 夏天我們喜歡喝清涼飲料,冬天則喜歡吃熱食。但是怎樣吃、如何吃,是有因人而異。養生並不只是在身體健康時進行,也適合在受傷疾病初癒。例如同樣兩位運動愛好的男性,即使是同樣年齡,一位是健康的,另一位是骨折痊癒、剛拆石膏,即使同樣想透過養生讓自己表現更好,養生方式已經不一樣。養生是一輩子的事,從來沒有一個養生方法可以在任何時間、地點適合任何人。

想要養生,不見得需要一大堆昂貴的保養品,除了自身的健康目標,也要先了解自己的身體狀態及需求,才能根據自身需要,事半功倍的養生 - 專業的量身定做養生方案就是為此而設。
We are all human being, but we are different individuals. We have different characters and habits; we have different preferences and hobbies; we have different life-style and career; we live in different environments and locations. These make us different. Those are suitable to me, it doesn't mean also suitable for you; those you like, it doesn't mean I also like them. So, why is it possible that a health regimen can be fit to everyone?

Many people think that traditional Chinese medicine is for curing disease - even international health organisation. In fact, traditional Chinese medicine is a life-style philosophy, a philosophy that everyone can practise and maintain our body to stay healthy - and to curing disease, is actually "as a last resort" technique. There are bunches of food and products that claim "healthy", "improve body status"; many articles directly or indirectly claim with Chinese medicine theory to stay healthy. Maybe you tried, some work, some didn't work, some even worse. Why?

Ancient Chinese philosophy and culture emphasise balance, which is also in health cultivation. In Chinese medicine theory, to make up a plan to stay health, it must be based on timing, location and individual - that means based on time, season, climate, location and environment, age, gender, body type and body status. Even living in the same city, we have different food preferences in different season, e.g. we like cold drinks during summer and prefer hot food during winter. But how to eat, what to eat, that is the question. Also, health cultivation is only for healthy individuals but especially important for after-injury or early-recover stage. For example, even two same-age, sporty males, one is healthy, the other one is just recovered from broken arm, they both want to have better improvement on their favourite sport, the plans are totally different - health cultivation is long-life work, there is no single health cultivation plan which is suitable for anytime, anywhere and anyone.

We mostly don't need expensive, fancy healthcare product to be healthy. Except we know our health goal, what we need is to understand our body status and what we actually need, so that we can “do more with less" to maintain our body - this is why a professional, tailor-made health cultivation plan is necessary.

Herboratory provides online consultation, so that you can understand your body status and adjust your body status and life-style with your health goal no matter where you are. 

First consultation would understand your goal and purpose, with questions including body performance, habit, life-style, also external expression (e.g. face, tongue, skin, etc) to figure out our body status for tailor-making current best-fit plan. According to the body status, season, climate or living location changing, the original plan may not suitable anymore, then your plan can be adjusted with follow-up consultation.

養生諮詢跟看中醫有什麼差別?|What's the difference between health cultivation consultation and visiting Chinese medicine doctor?
很多人以為調身體需要吃中藥、做針灸推拿,這是一個非常錯誤的觀念。古語有云:藥有三分毒。想要健康而沒到病的程度,為什麼需要服毒維持健康?這跟殺雞焉用牛刀有什麼差異!中醫講求藥食同源,講的不只是食物可以入藥,更深一層是我們的飲食會影響自身身體狀態,因此飲食不得不謹慎。除了飲食,日常生活的活動以及情緒,同樣影響我們的身體狀態。養生諮詢不是治病,而是在生病前將身體狀態調整得更好,或痊癒後讓身體更快恢復到更好的平衡狀態。
Many people misunderstand that health cultivation needs to take herbal medicine, do acupuncture, do moxibustion or tuina - this is totally a wrong concept. It has been known since ancient Chinese that medicine is a kind poison. For one who wants to stay health and not yet getting sick, why does one need to take poison to stay health? It's breaking a butterfly on a wheel! In Chinese medicine, medicine and food share the same origin, it doesn't only mean food as medical ingredient, but also what we intake affects our body status. Except diet, our daily activities and emotion also affect our body. Health cultivation consultation is not curing disease, but to maintain and improve status and balance not to get sick, or adjust and help the body to recover better after imbalance status.
養生諮詢怎麼看?多久看一次?|What would the consultation do? What is the frequency of visiting?
第一次諮詢會首先知道您的健康目標,可能是睡不好、想要調理月經、想要增重或減重。知道您的目標後,我們會詢問一系列關於您的身體反應、平日生活習慣作息、飲食偏好等問題,並且透過觀察你神情、臉色、舌象等,會得知您的身體狀態有哪些地方需要改進或處理,從而制定適合您的方案以達到您的健康目標。跟隨養生方案實行後,身體狀態會逐漸改變。我們會告訴您方案到了什麼時候不再適用,需要回來修正。諮詢次數間隔因人而異。例如調理月經,若是剛好在月經前,可能需要月經結束後就要回來諮詢以便跟進;若剛好是月經結束後前來諮詢,則可能是下次月經來前前來諮詢。又例如調整睡眠,在諮詢後大概要求一星期回來跟進,但情況穩定則可能是一、兩個月後。若希望季節性調整,則可能三個月一次。
In the first consultation, we will understand your goal, maybe sleep quality improvement, menstruation, gain/lose weight, etc. After that, we will ask you a series of questions about your body performance, life style and habit, food preferences, etc; we will also observe your look, face and tongue, and gather the information to understand your body status, where to improve or adjust, so that we can tailor-made the plan for you. Since you follow the plan, your body status will change progressively. We will let you know what would happen to your body when you start the plan, when do you need to come back for follow-up consultation to adjust. Frequency of the consultation may vary depending on cases. For example, for menstruation, if the consultation is exactly before the period, we may request you for the follow-up consultation after the period; if the consultation is just after the period, we may request you for the follow-up consultation before the period. Or if you are looking for sleep improvement, we may request you for the follow-up consultation after a week, when the body status is stable, the follow-up maybe monthly or bi-monthly. For those who look for seasonal adjustment, consultation would be every three months.
